Principal's Message
Welcome Back!
What a wonderfully weird time to be in our world. As we look forward to being all back together again after a five month absence, the excitement is mixed with uncertainty. What I know for sure is that we are going to be kind, compassionate, and caring towards one another.
I feel truly blessed to live here in the Yukon, specifically on White River Traditional Territory. I have also had the honour of spending time on many traditional territories this summer. I have been enjoying a slower pace of life, with a clearer focus on what is important, our land being one of those things. Being out on the land and feeling connected to it is something I have always done. COVID19 has provided me with an opportunity to take that connection to a deeper level. We planted a garden and now have home grown fresh vegetables (mostly kale), something that is so important especially here in Beaver Creek with the grocery store 5 hours away (one direction!). I went on my first ever overnight canoe trip on the Yukon River, floating into Dawson City on Discovery Day weekend! I hiked in Kluane National Park for the first time and it was beyond breathtaking. Each of these activities brought me out of my comfort zone and strengthened my mindfulness practice, what an incredible gift!
My goal this year to carry that connection and mindfulness into the classroom. We have a wonderful opportunity to spend more time outside and be connected with nature since we cannot be too physically close to each other.
Please take care of yourselves, each other and keep on washing those hands!
Stay well,
Heidi Warren
